Sleepwalkers is a series of 40 paintings inspired by the film La Notte (1961), directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, and by an etching, Melancholia, made in 1966 by Vanriet’s friend, the Czech artist Pravoslav Sovák (1926–2022).
